  • Avoid the Stress When Getting Dressed

Avoid the Stress When Getting Dressed

Stress When Getting Dressed can Affect Our Health, Social life and whole Day!

Would you agree?  Can you relate to this?  I have heard of at least two women who have been so stressed that they have turned down social occasions because they just knew they wouldn’t be able to decide what to wear. Imagine being able to enjoy getting dressed to go out and being able to get dressed quickly so that you can walk out the door feeling confident and showing your own style.

Before having children which was a long time ago I used to change quite a few times before going out anywhere.  I had that luxury and even if it was going to work in the morning being a true Libra Star Sign I would want everything perfect and could never make up my mind.  Once the children came along that soon changed.  Dress quick – that was it!

Now the children have grown up and I have so many other activities that I love to spend my time on again I don’t have the time or inclination to spend ages deciding what to wear.  As well as the time factor who wants all those piles of clothes to put away?  How cool to be able to look at the weather, think of the occasion you are dressing for sports, work, social, formal and then just get dressed knowing that whatever you put on will be just right for you.

You can avoid that last minute stress and piles of clothes to put away by:

    1. Knowing your most flattering colours and styles
    2. Only having in your wardrobe clothing and accessories that fit your own style recipe and colour palette
    3. Once you have your colour palette sorted you will know that your clothing is always going to be the right colour for your skintone, hair and eye colour AND look good with other accessories you own
    4. Make sure that all your clothing is a great fit for your body shape and the size that you are now.  Feeling comfortable in your clothing is important no matter what you are doing.
    5. If you have the space you can split your clothing into sections to cater for  different aspects to your life – Hobbies, Sports, Work, Meetings, Family Outings, Socialising
    6. If you are the sort of person who likes to be prepared well before an event ensure you have the outfit ready ahead of time to get dressed into.  Some people even plan their outfits for the following week no matter what their itinerary is.  I am writing about this in a subsequent post.
    7. Ensure you are getting dressed for you with regard to your own style, personality, colours and comfort however also  take  into account the occasion.
    8. Consideration for others when you dress is not about fitting in with everyone else.  It is about consciously dressing so that you can reflect who you are to the world and show respect for other people.
    9. Last but not least Number 9 – Get dressed and leave on time.  Know that you look great, you feel great and you don’t need to second guess that choice of clothing. If you are dressed as YOU, wearing YOUR colours and style, in comfortable clothing suitable for the occasion you are going to you can’t go wrong.

  • Using Your Colour Swatch

    Using Your Colour Swatch

Explore and Discover Your Colour Options

Wow what fun you can have using your colour swatch!  I recently pulled out a dress that I hadnt worn simply because I was not used to wearing those colours and kept bypassing it.   I took a good look at the dress with my colour swatch and realised Yes! it is in my colour swatch and it does look good on me – even more so with a bit of red lipstick. This neutral is a great alternative to black.

Do you find that you are wearing a lot of the same colour all the time?  Try exploring the colours in your swatch.  There may be colours in your colour swatch that you had not even thought of wearing Be adventurous now that you have had a colour consultation and have your colour swatch.  Remember your colour swatch is a tool and a guide that can save your hundreds of dollars.

Take your swatch to your wardrobe or with you to the shops and ask yourself …

    • Does the colour of the garment blend in with the swatch?
    • Is it the same level of lightness or darkness?
    • Is it warm or is it cool?
    • Is it clear or muted compared to the swatch?
    • If you fan the swatch out do all the rest of the colours in the swatch kind of “go” with the colour in the garment you are looking at?

Your wardrobe will be so much more  versatile with the ability to mix and match if you use your swatch.  Try the following to “tweak” your wardrobe using your colour swatch

    • Try finding colours of similar  colour value and wearing them together such as a light pink with a light blue or a a medium yellow with a medium purple; or you could try putting a few of the richer colours in your swatch together   If they are in your swatch each colour will be right for you.  You can be confident of this.
    • Try putting one of your signature colours (which will be marked on your swatch) in a garment which will be worn near your face with a nice dark neutral – the darkest in your swatch as this will really highlight your face and make the signature colour stand out.

Have fun and discover some new ideas by using your swatch.  By using YOUR colour swatch you  know that you cant go wrong.

Contact Moana Robinson of Beauty Glow to find out your colour palette . A full Colour consultation takes 1.5 to 2 hours and you receive

    • Your personal colour swatch with your signature colours highlighted
    • Your personal booklet guide filled with information about your colours
    • The opportunity to ask questions and receive information that is personal to YOU

Explore the shops and even your own wardrobe with a brand new outlook on colour.

  • Your Wardrobe of Choice …

    Your Wardrobe of Choice …

    Just Imagine

Going away on holiday we don’t pack any clothing or accessories we feel may be superfluous to our needs – That would waste space and weigh us down. Who would ever want to pay excess baggage charges on the way TO our destination especially!

The garments hanging in our holiday wardrobe are what we feel good in, what we look good in, are our most comfortable and suitable for whatever occasions we  plan to attend while away.

Opening the wardrobe door while away on holiday and choosing what to wear is so simple. Done!    Now … What fun activity are we going to do today with our family and friends?

While on holiday we live in the present and take so much notice of what is happening right at that moment. Holidays are temporary so we tend to appreciate every single day, focus on what we are doing and treasure the days because they will be finishing soon.  Time is not wasted thinking about past frustrations and worrying about possible future problems. What a great feeling living in the present moment is.

Most of us are lucky enough to have choice in our day to day life to a certain extent.  Just think for a moment though about maybe making that choice to have only what we want, what is comfortable for us and what is good for our lifestyle right now.  This way we eliminate what doesnt work and we are free to also make a choice to live in and appreciate the present moment without the clutter of the superfluous.

Just as we can make New Year goals we can create our wardrobe of choice halfway through the year or even at the beginning of every month, week, or day.

Having a wardrobe of choice whether you are on holiday or at home is all about wearing what is right for you and only having what is right for you with you. Guidance with your style and colours that suit you best can help with this wardrobe of choice. You would be surprised at how liberating it can be to review and refocus what you want in your wardrobe right now – Is it the same as what you wanted in your wardrobe at the beginning of the year? or last month? Choice is a wonderful, powerful word and your own personal wardrobe is an example of how you can exercise that power of choice. Sometimes you can have too much going on to even know what that choice might be. Narrowing that choice is going to give you that same feeling as opening that holiday wardrobe door – knowing that you only have in your wardrobe what looks good, feels good, serves a purpose and is comfortable for YOUR life.

  • Winner of our Style Day Competition

Winner of our Style Day Competition

Taking Time Out Especially for YOU

We had an amazing day with the Winner of our “Style Day Especially for YOU” Competition.  Lyndi MacRae rose to the challenge and sent in a video to the Beauty Glow Facebook Page and shared her reasons for wanting to win the competition.  In these busy times it is too easy to put ourselves on the back burner and right at the end of our list.  The aim of this competition was to …

    (1) Encourage people to really step out of their comfort zone and feel that joy of achieving something they are not used to doing

    (2) Take a whole day to explore what is possible – see themselves in a different light and step away from the “busy-ness” of life for a day.  Lyndi understands the value of investment in time like this.

It was a busy full on day but during the time Lyndi had …

    1. Full Colour Analysis with regard to clothing and accessories
    2. Discussion of lifestyle and wardrobe functionality
    3. Body shape discussion and ideas of clothing that would suit body shape plus lifestyle and style personality
    4. Makeup application and tips were given on how to apply the makeup
    5. Shopping trip to look at some outfits and ideas which suited Lyndi’s body shape and colouring – clothes bought were neutrals as a good base to add colours from her swatch
    6. Visit to a shoe store for some quality comfortable shoes with style  suitable for various occasions including business engagements
    7. Visit to the hairdresser to colour, conditioning treatment and trim with attention on future management of hair for optimum hair health for the style she wished to have
    8. Photo session afterwards from Sumico so that Lyndi could see the transformation and share her special style day
    9.  total $2.070 in value including vouchers for clothing, shoes, hairstyling, Photography Session Gift Certificate, PR Session with a publicity expert and a Naturopathic Health Assessment

The benefits of reaching out and then accepting what is offered are sometimes not realised until quite some time afterwards.  Conversations during the day, questions asked and information provided combined with a full on day of Colour and Style Analysis, shopping and hair appointment – not to mention having photos taken and trying on different outfits – all took Lyndi far away from what she usually does in a day.

How refreshing though to do something that you do not usually do?

How rejuvenating to think of a different way to dress or accessorise?

Sometimes it is those little tweaks or wearing the right colours to bring out the beautiful blue in the eyes or  lovely natural skin.  Congratulations to Lyndi MacRae on stepping up and entering the competition.  There had to be a personal challenge as the prize really was amazing.  Taking on that challenge and creating the video is a reward in itself –  Lyndi absolutely blossomed in those hours achieved through her own volition and willingness to learn more about herself .  There are endless possibilities to be achieved when you gain confidence and renewed vitality by taking some time out especially for YOU.

Contributors to the Style Day Competition were Moana Robinson from Beauty Glow, Sumico Web & Graphic Design, Passion 4 Health  Hair Design by Lou, Designs to Cherish, The White House Fashions, Sole Sister Shoes, Publicity Genie AND Lyndi MacRae – the “Unstick Chick” (look her up – Lyndi is all about making the “invisible visible”  and is currently working on some great tutorials; Lyndi has marketing solutions to  help Entrepreneurs develop a quality user experience)

  • Bringing Life to Your Wardrobe

    Bringing Life to Your Wardrobe

    Wardrobe Clutter

Is your wardrobe out of control? Unsure of what suits you best? Can’t decide what to wear every morning? Always shopping, but still you don’t have the right items to wear? Then probably it’s time to sort your wardrobe from scratch. We all know that our wardrobes can become extremely cluttered with clothes and accessories that can be years and years old. The one stop solution to this problem is having an Image Consultant in for an audit or makeover of your closet. The Image Consultant will use their knowledge to help you achieve a clean and well organized wardrobe.

    Tip #1 Organize

Take everything out of your wardrobe and sort your clothes into a few piles such as clothes frequently in use, infrequently used, out of season, need some alterations or to donate charity. It might be not easy to do this but sorting out unused clothes is essential to make room in your wardrobe.  A good idea is to then have three baskets handy  labelled (1) Ditch (2) Donate (3) Darn (mending or alterations)

Tip #2 Pull out your greatest hits

Once your wardrobe is organized, pick out styles that you know suit you best and will flatter your shape and colouring. Once you have identified your greatest hits line them up neatly in your closet.  If you are unsure whether they do suit you this is where an Image Consultant can give you an honest, unbiased and  professional opinion.

    Tip #3 Save Your Money

Resist the urge to go shopping. Rather than buying new clothes straight away it is a great idea to enlist the services of an Image Consultant to help compile a list to fill any gaps left tn your wardrobe. The Image Consutlant will take into account your lifestyle and style personality. The wardrobe should be a place you can go to and instantly pick out something to wear for any occasion. If you rush into buying more new clothes you could end up with clutter again with incorrect choices being made. Your Image Consultant can even come shopping with you once that list is made.

The personal Image Consultant knows how to perfectly organize every wardrobe. Whether you are a woman who is overwhelmed with the amount of clothes you own or who has retired and needs a wardrobe to match a new lifestyle, a woman who wants a post-pregnancy revamp or a woman who is returning to the workforce after being a stay at home Mum for many years.

For a well-maintained and orderly wardrobe, your personal Image Consultant will assess you and your lifestyle then get you to try on few items explaining which ones will look good and which maybe don’t suit you. Having a wardrobe makeover can definately save your time and money and also save you from making the same mistakes that you made previously. Clearing out your wardrobe can be like a breath of fresh air into a big part of your life.

  • Spice Up Your Black Wardrobe

    Spice Up Your Black Wardrobe

ARE YOU TRYING TO EASE OUT OF THE “EVERYTHING IN MY WARDROBE IS BLACK” SYNDROME?

Sometimes when we don’t know what to wear to work it is just easiest to have that all black outfit or suit as it seems to look smart and professional, keeps clean longer and is just… well, practical.

I used to work in a legal office and remember one of my daughters asking whether my uniform was to wear black clothes. It wasnt a unitform it was just easy and felt smart and professional.  If you have the right colouring black can look amazing but it can also become boring and uninspiring. I said at a recent talk at a gym how everyone would feel if they walked in and EVERYONE was wearing black outfits and all the equipment was black? How motivating would that be for anyone wanting to put their all into a workout ?…not very! This is why energetic colours are bright colours.

A way to put more energy and vibrance also into the workplace is to introduce colour that suits your skintone and still looks professional. You can easily expand your “all black” wardrobe and even create some new wardrobe capsules is to utilise your black staples of skirts, trousers  and jackets with a new seasonal colour which will update your wardrobe. Add a colourful jacket or scarf and other accessories in any of the latest colours as a feature. Be careful to not “feature” too many items at once – either have an overall look of black with subtle touches of colour or feature a scarf  or necklace in the contrast colour.

To really be on trend and fashionable for Autumn 2015 you could add Lucite Green or Marsala touches to your working corporate wardrobe or the very latest colour “Spiced Pumpkin” which ties in perfectly with the upcoming Modern Seventies Trend.

Spiced Pumpkin would look amazing with black as it is high contrast for those who suit high contrast and can be adapted to suit depending on your own preference. If you are someone who cannot wear orange definitely keep this away from your face but you may want to just add a touch of spiced orange for fun – The best way is to have a slight black pattern on your orange garment if it is a skirt or top to tie in to the black staple jacket or pants. Choose a colour and accessorise your black. Even in a corporate environment people want to see a bit of colour.

  • Get Your Exercise “Mojo” Back and Keep It With Colour

Get Your Exercise “Mojo” Back and Keep It With Colour

COLOUR CAN PLAY AN IMPORTANT PART IN HOW YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR TRAINING OR PRACTICE

The New Year means a fresh start and inspiration to start exercising.

How do you keep and maintain that exercise “Mojo” down the track?

Colour can play an important part in how you feel about your training or practice.

Yoga is a stretching modality and people tend to wear calm, soothing pastel colours such as blues, pinks and neutral or natural colours like browns, creams and black.

If you are into cardio brighter, energetic colours can get you pumped up, motivated and the fire within really going. – Neon oranges, hot pinks and fluorescent greens and yellows are great for energetic workouts – step, pump, running, boxing.  Reds, and blacks are popular with strength training.

The psychological effect colour has is quite surprising. Just imagine if you walked into a gym and EVERYONE was wearing all black… close your eyes and imagine black clothes, black gym equipment … How motivated would you feel? Now imagine all colours of the rainbow – different people wearing their choice of colour – it makes your workout interesting and fun. If you are doing a relaxation class add some beautiful colour and you think of beautiful things.

    • Black is a good base colour for staples such as tights and shorts – Team with something coloured (Black can represent coolness, toughness, individuality and strength – it can also represent “sustaining”)
    • White – Another neutral (Lovely and fresh – it can represent a change in attitude, great for re-starting your exercise programme, good for taking you through that pain barrier)
    • Red – The colour of courage, tenacity, determination, strength, attracts attention so you are more likely to work hard
    • Yellow – The colour of creativity and enthusiasum, fun , friendly and happy. All help with motivation
    • Brown – A steady, calming colour associated with the earth/environment – good for yoga and relaxation
    • Blue – Calm and assertive. Good colour for resolve and commitment
    • Green – Pale green is best for relaxation or stretching exercise but brighter greens are great for consistent training as can represent loyalty
    • Orange – Is good for creating energy and a sense of fun., a fresh colour
    • Pink – The passion colour – can help to develop a passion for a chosen exercise or sport
    • Purple – is usually a creative or artistic colour and depending on the shade is good for yoga, pilates or brighter purple for strength and cardio training

Introducing colour to your workout of course is not the magic answer to bring back your “Mojo” but do whatever personally works for you to “keep re-igniting that mojo” – it may be joining a gym (Choose a gym that is easy and convenient for you); and/or

At Beauty Glow we can assist with finding your True Colours

  • Colour by Beauty Glow

    Colour by Beauty Glow

We help you find your TRUE colours

Never underestimate the importance of colour and the difference it can make to how we look and feel.

Colours that are going to look the best on a person are colours that harmonise with that person’s own personal colour properties in their eyes, skin and hair.

We perceive colours to be either warm or cool and in colour analysis this is usually one of the first steps – to determine whether a person has a warm or cool undertone.  Blue based colours are cool and yellow based colours are warm.

We also look at intensity of colour – in other words the brightness or  muted-ness (smokiness) of  a colour.  The bright colours have strong chroma and greyed/muted/toned-down colours have weak chroma.  A colour is considered bright when it is cool and clear.  A colour is known as muted/smoky when it is greyed down or neutralised.

Value is defined as the relationship between light and dark with the measure being made along a scale from white to black.  Each hue has a value as it appears on the colour wheel.  For example Yellow is naturally light whilst Indigo is naturally deep.

There is so much more to a colour analysis than just whether a person is “warm” or “cool”.  Once you go through a colour analysis session you will feel more confident about what colours actually look the best on you.  You will know that your skin will look its clearest and brightest with the correct colours, your eyes will stand out especially if you wear colours that are what are known as “eye enhancers” and your overall appearance will be in harmony – clothing, skin tone, hair colour and eye colour.  You may notice that if someone is wearing the wrong colour for them the clothing is noticed first.  It  should be the overall harmonious appearance that is noticed and the beholder’s eyes should always be drawn to the other person’s face.
